Here's what Loughton Rotary Club has been up to this month. Fancy joining? Here's how.

Angela Gakis gave a very informative and touching presentation on September 13.

The Buddy Bag Foundation is a wonderful charity that helps children in crisis. It was created in response to the rising number of children who enter emergency care after fleeing violent situations at home.

Restoring a sense of safety and security into a child’s life during a traumatic time is one of the first steps to recovery.

By providing these children with a few essential items, we can help make the transition into emergency care a little easier. The rotary club was delighted to present her with a cheque for £200.

On September 14 we hosted our free monthly Memory Cafe in Loughton for people with memory issues and their cares.

It’s an activity session with singing, a quiz, bingo and games with free refreshments. We hold it every second Friday of the month from 10am to 12pm at The Loughton Club, at 8 Station Road, Loughton, IG10 4NX. The next free session is on October 12.

On Sunday September 16 we held our annual 10km sponsored walk through the beautiful Hainault Country Park. The event raised much-needed funds to support devastated families and siblings who are the victims of gun and knife crime, in partnership with Chigwell Tours. Our next fundraising event is a fun quiz in aid of Chigwell Riding Trust on Friday October 12. Please contact us if you can support us by entering a team or donating a raffle prize.

Our guest speaker this week is Tony Betts, President of Redbridge Rotary Club, who will talk about the upcoming Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, and our speaker on October 4 is John Batchelor, who will talk about saddlery.

We're a lively, friendly and social club with a good mix of local people who care of every gender, ethnicity and age.

We’d be very happy to talk to you further about our club and you would be very welcome to join us at one of our fellowships. There is no obligation.

Just some of the charities we’ve helped recently include Chigwell Riding Trust, Loughton Food Bank, St Clare Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer and End Polio, Diabetes UK. Voluntary Action Epping Forest, Citizens Advice Bureau Epping Forest.
