A major roundabout near to the M25 in Epping Forest is due to be temporarily closed for roadworks.

The Guardian had previously reported Essex County Council’s intention to make an order to temporarily close Sewardstone Road Roundabout, Waltham Abbey, from the junctions with A121, A112, Sewardstone Road and Dowding Way, a distance of approximately 190m.

That order, which came into effect on February 24, has been made and the closures will be carried out in a phased manner.

All temporary closure notices last for up to 18 months and the dates when the restrictions will be implemented will be published on the One.network website and/or on road signs at or near the relevant locations.

In addition to the closure, a temporary 30mph speed limit and ‘no waiting, no loading and no stopping’ restrictions will be introduced, while the 7.5 tonne weight limit will be suspended in sections of Sewardstone Road, Farm Hill Road and Honey Lane.

There will be three alternative routes while the works are carried out: via Meridian Way, Highbridge Street, Station Road, Eleanor Cross Road, Monarchs Way, Winston Churchill Way, M25, Honey Lane, Dowding Way and vice versa; via Sewardstone Road, Kings Head Hill, Station Road, Rangers Road, Epping New Road, Woodridden Hill, Honey Lane, Dowding Way and vice versa; and via Sewardstone Road, Farm Hill Road, Honey Lane, Dowding Way and vice versa.

The county council has also confirmed in a notice in this week’s Guardian that an order has been made for the 19-day closure in Spring Lane, Loughton, for new water connection works.

This work is due to start from Monday and the road is set to be shut from its junction with Newnham Close to its junction with Summerfield Road, a distance of 75m.

The diversion will be via The Avenue, The Crescent, High Road and vice versa.

A notice has been made for the closure of a section of Back Lane, Sheering, for five days from March 14 for new power connection works.

The closure is due to apply from 245m south-east of its junction with Sheering Lower Road for a distance of 200m in a south-easterly then north-easterly direction.

Motorists are advised to use The Street, Harlow Road, Sheering Road, Sheering Lower Road (with access only to Back Lane) and vice versa during the closure.

Meanwhile, the council is intending to make a notice for a 33-day closure in Debden Lane, Loughton, for mains replacement works.

This is scheduled to start on March 28 and will shut the road from 125m north-east of its junction with Englands Lane for 160m in a north-easterly then south-easterly direction.

The alternative route will be via Debden Lane, Loughton Lane, The Green, Coppice Row, Jacks Hill, Wake Arms Roundabout, Goldings Hill, Clays Lane, Lower Road, Rectory Lane, Hillyfields, Pyrles Lane, Englands Lane and vice versa.
