Emergency services are on the scene as the M25 has been closed after a serious crash in Essex.

The M25 has been closed anti-clockwise between junction 27 and junction 26, near Waltham Abbey.

This is due to a serious crash involving a car and a lorry, National Highways says.

A National Highways spokesman said: "The M25 in Essex is closed anti-clockwise between J27 (M11) and J26 (Waltham Abbey) due to a serious collision involving a car and a lorry.

"Essex Police are among the emergency services in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management."

Traffic control says the crash is just before the Bell Common Tunnel.

Drivers are facing long delays back past junction 26.

Anti-clockwise traffic is being diverted via the hollow square symbol:

  • Exit the M25 at J27 onto the M11 southbound and continue to J4.
  • Exit the M11 onto the A406 headed westbound and continue for approx. 6 miles to the junction with A10
  • Take the A10 headed northbound to rejoin the M25 at J25
