Local UKIP chairman elected as party treasurer ANDREW Smith, the chairman of the Epping Forest branch of the UK Independence Party, has been appointed national party treasurer.

Mr Smith, who lives in Epping, will be taking a leading role at party conferences and annual general meetings.

He said: "It's a great honour and I'm delighted to be taking it at a time when I can be of the greatest service to the Party. I will run a tight ship, which is more than can be said of the EU.

"As a chartered accountant, I've been concerned with producing true and fair accounts all my working life. The EU's failure to get its accounts approved by the European Court of Auditors for nine successive years is an international disgrace.

Mr Smith is a city-based accountant who has been living in the area since 1970. He stood as the UKIP candidate for Epping Forest in 2001.
