Around 30 firefighters are tackling a large wildfire which has spread across Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.

The alarm was raised at around 1.40pm on Sunday when grass caught alight near the summit of the famous hill.

Six appliances and around 30 crew members were called to the scene, with firefighters having to use water backpacks to tackle the flames.

Large plumes of smoke could be seen rising above the peak.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said there were no casualties.

The blaze comes after firefighters warned on Saturday for members of the public to be aware of such risks.

Chairman of the Scottish Wildfire Forum Bruce Farquharson called for people to heed safety advice and “enjoy the weather responsibly”.
