Leyton Orient are on the verge of signing former Arsenal striker Jay Simpson.

The 25-year-old was at Brisbane Road today and it is understood he underwent a medical. Simpson's arrival is expected to be confirmed by the League 1 club within the next day.

Nottingham Forest striker Darius Henderson has also been heavily linked with the O's and it is believed he is very keen on a move to the club. But it is understood that he is hoping to be released from his contract and there are still some details to be agreed before this transfer is finalised.

Speaking after Orient's 2-2 draw with QPR this evening, manager Russell Slade said: "I think we're getting closer to some new signings and that's quite positive if I'm honest.

"I'm certainly looking for two more and there should be an announcement some time this week."

Simpson is looking for a new club after he left Thailand side Buriram United last season. The forward started his career at Arsenal before loan spells at Millwall, West Brom and QPR.

He then spent three years at Hull which included another loan spell with Millwall. His most successful time was at Rangers where he netted 13 goals in 42 appearances during the 2009-10 season.
