Russell Slade believes Leyton Orient can still make the play-offs after ending a 'very good week' with a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe United.

The O’s built on Tuesday night’s hard-fought 1-1 draw at Notts County by beating Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park this afternoon.

Victory over Russ Wilcox’s Iron means the O’s are now unbeaten in six league matches away from home – a run which actually stretches back nine matches in all competitions.

Scott Cuthbert handed Slade and Orient the perfect start when he headed home Dean Cox’s third-minute corner.

The hosts levelled four minutes after the break when Matt Sparrow volleyed home.

However, the O’s showed great desire and determination to charge back up the other end and score through Jobi McAnuff to claim the point.

Reflecting on a second win of the season, Slade said: “I think it is a really good week for the football club.

“There is still a lot of work to between now and the end of the season but there is no question this group can get in the top six in my opinion, no question.”

The O’s were in charge for much of the contest and tested Scunthorpe goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik on eight occasions – something Slade was encouraged by.

He said: “Yes, it is [a deserved victory]. I thought we created ample opportunity really today – that was a positive thing – even though we left ourselves vulnerable just before half-time and then maybe in the closing stages they might have got one on the break.

“The nice thing was we were positive and we were creating chances all afternoon. All afternoon they kept coming and kept coming and that was capped with a great chance for Jay Simpson with about five minutes to go.”

He added: “What was a really good sign was the fact we were dominating the game and then they get a goal – a little bit on the counter-attack – and then we have gone forward and in a couple of minutes we are back in front.”
