Orient goalkeeper Alex Cisak insists the time for excuses from the players is up with just two games to keep the club in League One.

The O’s are heading towards relegation after picking up just two points from their last five games.

A 6-1 thrashing at MK Dons last weekend was followed by an equally damaging 1-0 defeat at Rochdale last night.

It means Orient’s fate is no longer in their own hands and Cisak believes only two wins, starting at home to Sheffield United on Saturday, will be enough to avoid relegation.

The Polish-born Australian said: “We need to get six points out of the next two games. That’s the only way we can do it and hopefully teams above us slip up.

“That’s all we can do now so we’ve got no excuses. We have to get six points otherwise we’ll be relegated. That’s all we can do really.

“We can’t have any more excuses now on Saturday. It’s a must win.”

Cisak helped York City and Oldham Athletic avoid relegation earlier in his career and maintains going down with the O’s would still hit him hard even though he is only on loan until the end of the season from Burnley.

The stopper said: “I was at York who were in a similar situation and they got clear of that. I was also at Oldham and we were threatened by relegation but stayed up with a couple of games to go.

“It’s the first time I’ve been in the relegation zone with a team where it’s out of our hands. Obviously we’ve got to wait on other results and I’ve never experienced that before so it’s going to be quite different really.”

Cisak added: “Anyone personally would be devastated by relegation on their CV. I definitely don’t want that to happen and I’m going to try my best on Saturday to get the three points because I don’t want to get relegated.”

Some Orient fans are already resigned to their fate after the recent setbacks but Cisak is adamant the players have not thrown in the towel and may play better with less expectation on them.

“Of course we’ve always got to believe,” he stated. “We can’t just give up even though it’s not in our hands any more. The only thing we can do is go and pick up three points against Sheffield United. We have to work hard on Thursday and Friday to go into Saturday in a positive frame of mind and hopefully the results go our way as well.

“Some teams, if it’s not in their hands, play better because there’s less pressure. Hopefully that happens on Saturday and we pick up three points and hope the teams above us drop points as well because that’s vital at this stage of the season.”

Cisak has been a consistent performer since joining the O’s back in February. He was their best player at Rochdale with several superb saves preventing the hosts from claiming a bigger win.

When asked if he wanted to come back to Orient next season, the goalkeeper insisted their league status was the only target on his mind.

“I’ve got no idea to be honest,” he admitted. “I’m just going one game at a time. I just want to help the club stay up. That’s my main goal and we’ll go from there.”

The on-loan goalkeeper added: “Personally I just want to be playing games no matter what level. I don’t want to have another year not really doing much.

“Obviously I want to go back to Burnley and be playing there but Tom Heaton has been doing very well this season and hopefully they stay up as well.

“I just want to be playing games and that’s best for my development because I’m still quite young for a goalkeeper.”
