I think it’s fair to say the start to the season has been a very enjoyable one.

Four wins out of four sees us flying high at the top of the table. There are a number of reasons for the turnaround after the bitter disappointment of last season but it seems the most obvious one has been the change of management at the club.

It’s no secret that there were difficulties between the playing and management staff last season, players both past and present have spoken about it and how they struggled with the language barrier.

With the change of backroom staff though, the team are now far more organised and the unity within the club has increased ten-fold. A lot of criticism was thrown at Mr Francesco Becchetti for his absence during large periods of last season, justifiably so, but his presence at every game so far this season is commendable.

Barry Hearn was rarely seen at away games, so to see Becchetti at Newport on Saturday was admirable to say the least. It was even stranger seeing him high five fans as he walked down Paddington station!

He also moved over to the away section to applaud the travelling support at the end of the game, so it is nice to see him make an effort to rebuild bridges with the fans.

Although we have won all four league games, it hasn’t all been plain sailing. There have been periods in each game where we have ridden our luck at times, but they say you earn your own luck. What has been key is that during the periods of play where we have played well, we have scored a goal.

As time goes by though, and as the players get used to how each other we should hopefully see more consistency throughout the game and with the attacking players we have at our disposal we should always be confident that we can outscore the opposition.

It is key that they stay fit though, especially with the size of the squad. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the final week of the window with Jobi McAnuff and Shane Lowry linked with a move away, it might free up resources to allow Ian Hendon to bolster the squad.

I think we’ll get our biggest test of the season so far this weekend when we play Bristol Rovers, hopefully we can continue our winning start.
