Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon felt his side should have beaten League Two leaders Plymouth after tonight's 1-1 draw.

The O's led for most of the match after Jay Simpson's superb early strike but Curtis Nelson's 81st minute goal harshly denied Orient victory.

Hendon said: "I think that's probably one of our best performances away from home in terms of determination, desire and effort. It had to be coming to a team top of the table who are a very good, organised side.

"We stuck at it first half, got the goal and it gave us something to hang on to. But I thought second half my boys were fantastic.

"We created numerous chances and they've ended up scoring from a knockdown from a set play. The lads said he's not really hit it that well and it's gone in so that's unfortunate but if we said we were going to come here and get a point before the game we would have taken it."

He added: "I'll be honest I've never doubted our ability to be up there [in top seven]. But I think today showed me a different side of my players. Whether you put that down to our little trip away last week who knows but they had a right go today and should have won the game."

The biggest setback from the evening was goalscorer Simpson going off in the first half with an ankle injury which makes him a doubt for Saturday's home game with AFC Wimbledon.

Hendon said: "I substituted him because he was injured because of the tackle that was made on him previously. Maybe that was a little bit of retaliation on Jay's part the tackle that he made. That shows what he's like. He's not going to be kicked around the football pitch and rightly so.

"We'll have to see how he is tomorrow but I think it's a little bit of a twist more than anything else.

"It was the tackle and I think he went over on it [ankle] as he got hit so we'll have to assess him but will have more of an idea tomorrow [Wednesday]."
