Dimitri Payet is refusing to play for West Ham United as he attempts to force a move away from the London Stadium club.

The 29-year-old will not train with the first team and has been left out of the match day squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Slaven Bilic confirmed the news at his Thursday press conference but insisted the club does not want to sell the inspirational Frenchman.

He said: “We have said we don’t want to sell our best players but Dimitri Payet does not want to play for us. We are not going to sell him.

“I spoke to the chairman and this is not a money issue. We gave him a long contract because we want him to stay.”

Payet has failed to match the levels of performance he attained in his first season with the Hammers and his form has been intermittent throughout the campaign.

He has been linked with moves to Premier League sides Manchester United and Arsenal as well as a return to former club Marseille.

Bilic is understandably disappointed with Payet’s conduct and made little effort to conceal his emotions.

He said: “This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry.”
