Waltham Abbey secured a last-minute 1-0 win over Bury Town on Saturday in the Ryman North Division to leave the victors 21st in the table.

Waltham had the first chance but Spencer Harrison could only spin the ball wide of the post.

Bury then had two opportunities in quick succession when Tevan Allen played in a low flick for the Abbey defence to clear. Soon after, Bradley Barber sent his free-kick inches over the bar to the frustration of the away side.

Jack Deveney should have scored in the 26th minute when he beat the Bury defence but he rolled his shot wide with just the keeper to beat.

The second half continued to be much of the same with both sides squandering their chances to take the lead. But Abbey managed to break the deadlock three minutes into injury time.

Darrelle Russell broke through the middle and chipped Neil O’Sullivan but his shot hit the post before substitute Ajani Carrington tapped in to secure a dramatic victory.

It has been a good week for Ilford as they recorded back-to-back wins in the Essex Senior League.

They saw off London Bari in a 6-2 on Saturday with Lindsipho Mtyanda opening their account in the fourth minute.

Christopher Stevens soon followed with a second eight minutes later before Mtyanda netted his second of the game.

Ryan Ramsay then struck twice within four minutes to send his side into the break 5-0 up.

Bari scored first in the second period but Ilford substitute Ajibola Ashinke made it 6-1 in the 73rd minute, before their opponents pulled another back.

Ilford had also defeated Haringey & Waltham 4-0 in mid-week.

Wadham Lodge gained some bragging rights after they defeated Waltham Forest 2-0 in their mid-week clash thanks to a Daniel Jones brace.

Lodge’s game against Eton Manor on Saturday was postponed and at the time of going to press Manor were set to take on Forest in a league fixture.

Forest’s week continued to get worse when they lost 1-0 to Clapton on Saturday.

Their ESL counterparts Barkingside won 4-3 over Enfield 1893 with two goals apiece from David Laird and Jakub Berkowic.

Goals from James Alexandrou and Bryan Kyungu couldn’t save Redbridge from a 6-2 League Challenge Cup exit against Sawbridgeworth Town.
