Winston Reid says confidence is high among the West Ham United squad after a run of six wins in their last 10 Premier League games.

Concerns over the club’s top flight status reached a high point shortly before Christmas after a poor start to the season left the Hammers near the drop zone.

However, the turn of the year brought with it renewed quality in both results and performances and Reid says a strong squad is in high spirits.

“We started the season bang average but, to be fair, we’ve been playing all right for a while now,” Reid told the West Ham website.

“It’s been a combination of things. We’ve had a few people coming back from injuries, people getting up to match fitness and people in form.

“When you win games, you get more confidence, and we’ve been winning games, so everyone is happier around the place and that shows out on the pitch.”

United were unfortunate not to make it seven wins from 10 games last time out as they drew 2-2 with West Brom at London Stadium.

The Irons led in the dying moments after goals from Sofiane Feghouli and Manual Lanzini had seen them fight back from 1-0 down.

Gareth McAuley’s last-gasp header denied them all three points, but Reid says the manner of United’s performance was evidence enough of their quality.

“In the last game we played against West Brom, even though we were 1-0 down, we were the better team throughout the game, whereas we might have crumbled a couple of months ago,” he said.

“We didn’t get the win in the end, but over the 90 minutes that was probably our best performance of the season.”

United’s improved form has coincided with the departure of Dimitri Payet to Marseille as well as Jose Fonte and Robert Snodgrass joining the club.

Reid believes the new faces have had a bigger impact than Payet’s departure and feels they have settled in quickly at London Stadium.

“I don’t want to pinpoint the whole situation on Dimi, because I think that would be unfair,” Reid explained.

“I think getting a couple of new players has freshened things up and everyone is on the same page.

“It’s been good. Obviously it takes time to build up an understanding but it’s improving with every game. Jose and Snoddy have fitted into the group really well.

“That’s important. We have signed not only good footballers, but good people as well who fit within the group.”
