The last ten days at the O’s have yet again been rather turbulent. Is there any other way in E10 at the moment? writes Pandamonium Fanzine editor Mat Roper.

A sensational win against Plymouth was followed up by ballboygate (yes, Liam Kelly was stupid to do what he did but six games, seriously?), a gut-wrenching defeat at home to Kevin Nolan’s Notts County, an injury to Tom Parkes, meaning our back four had the most makeshift look about it for the season so far (and that’s saying something) whilst the portly referee in disgusting lime green didn’t exactly do us any favours either.

Just how much more can we take to be thrown at us?

Most of my columns this year have centred around the bearded chap holding the purse strings but this is slightly different.

Whilst we simply must not lose sight of the continuing damage Mr Francesco Becchetti does to our club from some posh residence 1000 or so miles away, there is very little left that he or others can add to the circus act that is Leyton Orient, and with 15 games to go, our fight needs to be two-fold, but for now let’s focus on the positives.

Danny Webb has been like a breath of fresh air. A great friend of mine down the O’s came up with a brilliant analogy and that is if Danny put his right foot in a dog turd, he would look up, smile, and probably say, “Don’t matter, the left foot is ok”.

He has brought an infectious positivity with him to the role. Perhaps he sees it as we have no further to fall and therefore the only way to look is up, but whatever it is, he is doing it with gusto and getting the vastly inexperienced and young squad to fight for our league survival.

The results are still not quite there, and it will be one long nail biting run-in towards Blackpool on the final day of the season, but he and the team have given us all a glimmer of hope we can pull off what would be, in my humble opinion, a modern-day footballing miracle were we to retain a position in the league.

We still occupy a perilous position and the key for me is getting out of that bottom two (even if it’s only by a point) ASAP – hopefully that will be this very weekend when we host another massive game against Cheltenham Town.

The fans are continuing to do their bit and the numbers and noise versus County were impressive bearing in mind what we have been through. So whilst I encourage supporters to still join the fans trust and attend our special meeting on March 2, let’s also continue to recapture some, or all of that unity that took us so close just under three seasons ago.

And help be that driving force in the stands the players need to come up with the goods on the pitch, and stave off what would be a disastrous relegation.

Up the O’s.
