A pair of wins against Shefford & Sandy and Bishop Stortford helped Wapping’s Seconds rubber-stamp their promotion to the men’s East Premier B Division.

Saturday saw Wapping make light work of fellow high-flyers Shefford on Saturday as goals from Adam Haines, Alan Traill, Ollie Davies, Matt Hyden, Dom Oliver and Bobby Watson gave them a 6-2 win.

Wapping were in the ascendency from the off and took the lead inside the opening two minutes before stretching their advantage to 4-1.

Shefford briefly fought back to make it 4-2, but Wapping eased away once more to restore their four goal lead at full-time.

The victory meant Wapping went into Sunday’s meeting with Bishop Stortford knowing victory would be enough to confirm promotion.

Once again they showcased the quality which has underpinned their entire season and, led by a hat-trick from Oliver, eased to a 5-0 win.

Traill and Dudley Spiers also added their names to the scoresheet on a memorable day for the club, which saw the seconds earn their second promotion in three years.

The seconds success could not be mirrored by Wapping’s Firsts as they lost by the odd goal in five against a well-drilled Oxted outfit.

A number of injuries hamstrung coach Ryan D’Souza somewhat, but he was still able to call on a relatively strong starting lineup.

Regardless, Oxted repeatedly found gaps between the Wapping defence and midfield and soon raced to a 2-0 lead.

Wapping responded well to the early setback, however, and grabbed a lifeline when Ian Kibble deflected in Mark Bennett’s driven cross.

After weathering a storm after the break, Wapping restored parity when Rory Preston forced home a leveller after a strong run.

In need of a win to aid their survival hopes, Wapping pushed forward only to suffer despair late on as Oxted claimed a winner with two minutes to play.

A dramatic clash between the Ladies Firsts and Holcombe saw Wapping come away with victory from a game full of goals.

Belinda Armstrong, Kate Silbermann, Jordan Mulvaney, Francesca Sutton and Natasha Cole all found the net for Wapping.

Shane Martin was in fine form for Old Loughtonians Men’s Firsts and scored a hat-trick to lead them to a 8-2 win over Saffron Walden.

His treble undoubtedly made him the game’s star player on a day where Loughts were clinical in front of goal.

Martyn Lear and Kevin Ross both notched braces and Will Hopkins completed the scoring .

Meanwhile, Loughts Ladies Firsts earned a 1-1 draw against Maidstone thanks to a cleverly taken Daffodil Dhayaa goal.

Finally, Waltham Forest’s Ladies Firsts won 2-1 against Ashford, while their Men’s firsts went down to a 2-1 defeat against Wisbech Town.
