A Waltham Abbey racing driver took his first Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup win with a double podium showing.

Ben Green was able to win his first race last Sunday after a reversed grid worked in his favour.

During qualifying on Saturday, Green came second, just 0.06 seconds from being on pole.

Race one commenced shortly afterwards and the 19-year-old held second position for the opening laps until he was taken out by another driver attempting an ambitious overtake.

This cost Green his position and meant the entire grid came past him.

However, with nine laps left, the racer charged back from 18th to finish eighth.

On Sunday, Green started eighth on the grid for Race two and with some phenomenal driving on display he took to the podium to claim second place.

Round Six of the series, the last race of the weekend, was delayed due to an incident in the F4 British Championship race involving young driver Billy Monger.

Green’s team, Super Green Racing, wish Monger a speedy recovery.

On a reverse grid, the driver started in fourth position behind Reece Somerfield, Tom Hibberd and Declan Jones.

Green fought his way to second chasing after Hibberd and made a pass on Donnington’s Redgate to take and hold the lead on lap eight to seal his first win in the GT4 series.

Jones finished third with Callum Pointon taking second respectively.

The Century Motorsport driver said: “I’m over the moon with our result in race three.

“It feels like it’s been a long time coming and I feel we deserved every bit of it.

“To get my best qualifying result, then to be involved in an incident at the front of the field which cost me a good race one result.

“That was difficult, however, my drive in race two on Saturday morning gave me confidence for the final race.

“And all the hard work paid off.

“I’m looking forward to the next round at Oulton Park.”

Last year, Green finished fourth overall, one point behind second and third with 109 points.

Having had one season under his belt, Green will be hoping to improve on that showing.

At Brands Hatch, after the first three rounds, Green sat 11th but with the double podium and the win under his belt this will shoot him up in the championship standings.

The Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is a single-class race series which features both the Ginetta G50 & G55 GT4 sports cars.

It is supported by the British Touring Car Championship.
