West Ham United’s second match of the season has been reversed, meaning they will now face Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on the 19th August.

The game had originally been scheduled to be played at the London Stadium, however, due to the World Athletics Championships, the fixture has now been rescheduled.

The Championships will finish on Sunday 13th August, but the time taken to return retractable seats, which are removed in order to accommodate a running track, means the stadium would not have been fit to host the fixture between the Hammers and the Saints.

As a result, Southampton will visit the London Stadium in the return fixture on Saturday 31st March 2018.

It now means the Hammers’ first home game of the season will be against David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town on Saturday 9th September.
