There is, of course, no substitute for three points, but Mark Noble was still eager to highlight the positives in the wake of West Ham United’s 3-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

United were second best for much of the game as Harry Kane’s double and a Christian Eriksen effort left them 3-0 down, but Noble felt they responded well.

The Hammers captain felt a display which saw United battle back from 3-0 down to almost force a draw showed the sort of qualities which will stand the club in good stead going forward.

“If we play the way we did on Saturday, we’ll have a chance of winning the next three or four games,” he told the club website.

“There was a little bit of a shock going in 2-0 down at half-time, though I didn’t think we deserved that. We could easily have folded and given up at 3-0, but instead we dug in and managed to make a game of it.

“The way we pressed, the way we played, created a couple of chances and really looked good.”

Noble was left frustrated when the Hammers were not awarded a penalty in injury time after Andy Carroll went down under a challenge from Davinson Sanchez.

Carroll looked well set to head home from the deep corner and Noble felt the decision was similar to one which went against the Irons in a 3-2 loss at Southampton in August.

“I’m pretty sure Andy would have smashed that into the net - that’s the way we saw it,” he said.

“We had a similar situation go against us in the 93rd minute away at Southampton, having got ourselves back to 2-2 with 10 men. Sometimes these things pay you back but that wasn’t the case today.”

Noble’s assertion that West Ham have the quality to win four on the bounce will be tested with clashes against Swansea City, Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace over the course of the next month.
