Deepest condolences to Tony's family and friends.
We met Tony almost 20 years ago when he was visiting Jogi & Carmel in Derry. He was one of those guys who was instantly likeable. A larger than life character who took an interest in everyone he met. He came to my son's birthday and while trying to score a goal against an 8yr old, he managed to smash the window of the garden shed.!! Since then my sons have fondly known him as 'the Tony who smashed the window'!!

Rest in Peace Tony Palmer.

Many years ago I was between homes. I phoned Tony and asked if he could put me up till I got back on my feet. 'Sure man', says Tony straight out, like I'd asked him for a chewing gum, 'stay as long as you like'. And he let me stay rent-free until I got myself a new place. That's the kind of guy he was. Tony was one of my best friends for over 40 years. A big guy, with an even bigger unique personality. Whenever we met, he would have me in hysterics as he relayed what he had been up to since we last spoke. He showed me unquestionable friendship and loyalty, and would be round at a drop of a hat if he could help with any issues I had. He was known as ‘Big Tone’ to my kids, who were always excited when he came round, as he would spend quality time talking to them as equals and of course make them cry with laughter. He has to be the most selfless person I have ever met. During the 1st lockdown he purchased dozens of bags of groceries and delivered them to people he thought would benefit from them. I loved meeting him for a pint (or two) over a few games of pool or chess and of course, plenty of banter. I still cannot believe I will never hear his laugh again, his passing has left a big hole in my heart. Goodbye my friend.

RIP my big brother Tony. You were a colourful character in our family, very intelligent and very generous. l have early memories of your guitar playing and your interest in world history, always a socialist. You will be missed by us all ❤
