Stratford-based urban dance crew, IMD Legion, has beaten dancers from across the country to take five national championship titles at the 2020 UK Hip Hop Championships.

On Sunday, February 16, the crew claimed the gold medals in all five team categories: Megacrew (featuring over 40 dancers), Adult, Varsity and Junior crews (featuring up to nine dancers) and Trios, while two additional crews claimed third and fourth place in the Varsity category. Taking top three places means six teams from IMD Legion have now qualified to represent the UK at the World Hip Hop Championships in Phoenix, Arizona later this year, competing against more than 50 teams from over 50 countries.

IMD Legion founder and choreographer, Omar Ansah Anwar, said: “We’ve been competing successfully at this competition for a few years now, but this is our best result to date. Our choreographers and dancers continue to work tirelessly to prepare for these competitions so have earned this success. We are now looking forward to going to the USA to represent our country.”

IMD Legion sent five teams to the Hip Hop International World Championships last year, where its adult crew, IMD Legacy, finished seventh in its category finals to become the most successful UK crew to have competed in the championships. All IMD Legion’s other teams advanced to the semi-final stage of the World Championships.
