If you’re looking for adventure and fun try the longest play trail in the county and Sky Ropes at Great Notley Country Park, between Chelmsford and Braintree.

For younger children head to Thorndon and Weald – home to the much-loved Gruffalo and Stick Man trails, inspired by the bestselling books Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, licensed by Magic Light Pictures.

During August you can enjoy drop-in play sessions at Danbury Country Park with the ranger team, and family forest school during term time. Pack a picnic and make a day of it.
