Keen family history sleuths can discover more about their roots at Family Tree Live, a major new show taking place at London’s historic Alexandra Palace over two days in April.

Interest in genealogy has seen an explosion in popularity and this very special event at the much-loved venue will provide the first step on the ladder for many people hoping to find out just who they are and where they come from.

Family Tree Live, which takes place on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27, will feature expert talks, hands-on workshops, living history and children’s activities, a DNA hub, special displays and a large range of exhibitors and traders, allowing visitors to discover more about their ancestry, whether they are just starting out or have been researching their family tree for years.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Helen Tovey, editor of Family Tree magazine, said: “Many of us are unaware of our ancestors’ stories, how they lived and worked, and what they experienced; yet all of us have a rich family history waiting to be re-told.

“Family Tree Live will be a celebration of these stories, bringing together experts from around the world and providing learning opportunities to help visitors unearth their history and discover the wide range of records and resources available to us all.”

In recent years, DNA technology has taken family history in a new direction, with DNA tests providing a detailed analysis of your ethnicity and roots. The dedicated DNA Hub and lecture theatre at Family Tree Live will provide everything visitors need to know about taking a test, what to do with the results and more.

However, this scientific approach is just part of the story, and the event will provide plenty of information and inspiration to help visitors research their own ancestry and go back further, while living historians and military displays will provide an entertaining taste of what life was really like for our relatives in the past.

Family Tree Live has been organised by the team behind the popular Family Tree magazine in partnership with the Federation of Family History Societies, one of the largest genealogy organisations in the UK. The FFHS will provide a wealth of local knowledge at the event, with member societies from across the UK on hand to answer questions and offer advice.

Helen added: “Our modern world has so many demands on our time and attention, looking back on our ancestors’ lives, loves and experiences can provide a welcome respite and add some context to our busy lives. Family history has never been more popular and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to Family Tree Live.”
