London’s biggest free all night arts festival will be coming to Walthamstow and King’s Cross later this month.

Each year the festival focuses on a different part of London to explore its identity, cultures and architecture through contemporary art. This year’s Art Night, held on Saturday, June 22, is also a major part of Waltham Forest Borough of Culture 2019 celebrations.

The festival will give residents the opportunity to see artworks by internationally-known artists, and will occupy a variety of spaces where people are brought together in everyday life – the market, cinema, pub, community centre, library, shopping mall, museum, car park, school, places of worship and the street.

Augustin Wecxsteen , a spokesperson for the event said: “Art Night is an opportunity for everyone to see some of the most exciting contemporary artists from across the world make exhibitions, installations, performances and collaborative projects in their community. It doesn't matter if you have lots of knowledge of contemporary art or none at all!"

The programme takes inspiration from London 90s boy band E17’s single It's Alright - a song that deals with themes of hope love and the future.

Helen Nisbet, curator of Art Night, said: "All the projects will be very special, but a few to note are Zadie Xa's immersive installation upstairs at Walthamstow Library where she'll create a theatrical space that will feel a bit like being in the middle of the ocean.

"Walthamstow-based artist Emma Talbot is making a new series of paintings on silk for Art Night - shown in a couple of locations including the William Morris Gallery.

"Shiraz Bayjoo has worked with young people from Mission Grove Primary School to make a new 16mm film which will be shown at the Empire Cinema.

"I am over the moon that one of the most celebrated artists of our time, Barbara Kruger, has made a large new work for the town square."

There will also be events including live music performances, a car stereo sound installation and even a laughter yoga workshop.
