A stabbing victim has set out to raise £100 for a pensioner who was mugged for £5.

Shane Yerrell, 31, of Cullings Court in Waltham Abbey, set himself the fundraising challenge after reading that Stanley Evans, 93, a former cameraman from Soho in Central London, had been victim to a robbery in the lobby of his tower block on January 31.

Mr Evans suffered from shock and an injured shoulder following the attack.

A man, aged 29, was arrested at an address in Camberwell at around 10.45pm on Monday in relation to the robbery.

Mr Yerrell, who has been victim to two knife attacks and has previously raised money for teenager Liam Bradshaw, who was left with brain damage following a crash which killed three of his friends, said as soon as he saw what had happened to Mr Evans he knew he had "to show that there are decent people in this world."

He said: "when I saw what had happened I couldn't believe it.

"It's one of those things that you read and it gives you the hump because you don't know how someone could do that.

"Obviously the money won't change what has happened however I hope that it can go towards something to make him more comfortable following the attack.

"I know how it feels to be the victim of an attack but I cannot imagine how it must have felt at that age.

"I hope to raise £100 and meet up with Mr Evans, hopefully I can show that there are decent people in this world."

Mr Yerrell has so far raised £5 of his £100 target after setting up the page earlier today.
