Plans to build a block of flats at a golfing range have been opposed by North Weald Bassett Parish Council following concerns over traffic and design.
Councillors spoke out against the proposed development, which would see a three-storey building erected to accommodate 20 flats in place of the existing clubhouse and Essex barn at North Weald Golf Club in Rayley Lane, on Friday.
Plans to demolish both buildings are the subject of a separate planning application.
The club will continue to run as normal if plans are approved.
A spokesman for the parish council said: "the proposal is unsustainable in the area and out of character with the area and the surroundings.
"The council also has concerns about the amount of traffic which would be generated throughout the day, the lack of amenity space for each dwelling and the height of the proposed building.
"We are also concerned that with three golf courses in the area that such new development may set a precedent."
A final decision on the application will be made by Epping Forest District Council on Wednesday.
