AN ABANDONED poultry abattoir could be demolished to make way for a housing development.

Hertford Planning Service has submitted an application to Epping Forest District Council to develop Stoneshot Farm in Nazeing.

If approved, a mixed complex of buildings once used for the rearing of turkeys and chickens, along with a nearby abattoir that operated for 20 years before closing in the early 2000s, would be razed.

In its place 18 semi-detached family houses and 18 affordable houses would be constructed, along with off street parking and private gardens.

It is proposed that a road be built through the development over the route of an unused public footpath.

The report reads: “Overall it is considered that the proposed development would provide much needed family homes for the local area, thereby contributing to the District Council’s housing targets.

“Delivery of housing is significantly behind target in the district, and the proposed 36 units would provide a much needed contribution, in line with the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework.

“The proposed dwellings are of a high quality, traditional design that would be in keeping with the scale and character of both the adjoining residential properties and the surrounding locality.”
