LATE night revellers could avoid costly taxi fairs if funding plans for an after-dark bus service receive enough support.

Last summer Essex County Council stopped subsiding the late evening 250 and 251 bus services which ran from Waltham Cross to Loughton via Waltham Abbey town centre and Upshire.

When Epping Forest Transport Action Group, Essex County Council and Bindmans Solicitors met last week, the county council agreed to consider subsidising two new late evening services, if enough need could be demonstrated, to run from Waltham Cross at about 10.00pm and 11.00pm.

At present the last bus leaves Waltham Cross at 9.15pm.

Dave Plummer, a Waltham Abbey based Green Party activist, said: “There are a lot of people that come through London quite late and have to get a taxi.

“It affects people that work in hospitality who finish work late. People would use these services.”
