A police cordon is in place outside of South Woodford tube station after reports of a shooting.
At least four police cars, sniffer dogs and a large number of officers were present on George Lane, which has been closed.
The public is being stopped from entering the station.
Police were called at 2.43am this morning to reports of a shooting and enquiries are ongoing to establish whether anyone was injured.
There has been no arrests.
A spokesman for the Met said: "Police were called at 02:43hrs on Saturday, 9 June, to reports of a shooting in George Lane, E18.
"Officers attended the location.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish details of any person injured.
"Detectives from the East Area Command West are investigating alongside Trident colleagues.
"There has been no arrest at this early stage."
