A serial burglar who posed as a carer for disabled people to steal their cash has been jailed.

Over the course of half a year from February 13 to July 28, 2018 Emma Haslett targeted disabled and vulnerable people aged 65 to 87.

After gaining the victims' trust, the 36 year-old unemployed woman stole cash, wallets and even food.

When she was challenged by neighbours, she claimed to be a carer.

Haslett, of Highwood Lane, Loughton, was later spotted on CCTV using a victim’s card three times in nine minutes and on one day burgled four properties in the same street.

Investigating officer DC Ricky Rodd, of Loughton CID, said: “Haslett showed no remorse and previously denied her involvement in the offences concerned.

"She targeted our community’s most vulnerable and elderly people in premeditated crimes, over a period of time.

“We want to thank all the victims for their courage and bravery – many have lived decades without having to experience crime.

“Without their support, I am sure Haslett would have continued to target vulnerable people. I hope this outcome offers some justice to them.”

Haslett appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, August 31, where she pleaded guilty to nine burglaries, three frauds, one theft and one count of battery.
