The plug has been pulled at Waltham Abbey Leisure Centre.
The centre at Roundhills officially closed yesterday beforethe opening of a new facility on November 17.
To mark the occasion and quicken the clearing up process, mascot Pooch the dog pulled a large plug out of the pool.
Water began rushing out, despite the plug's predominantly ceremonial status.
The old leisure centre will now be demolished.
The council may then sell the site to a developer either with or without a pledge to purchase affordable homes on completion, keep part of the site for affordable housing and sell the rest, or develop the whole site itself, with some or all houses built to be affordable.
