Full story: Driver dies after car hits stationary lorry on A1

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses after a serious crash involving a car and a lorry on the A1 this morning.

The A1 remains shut northbound between Stirling Corner and the M25 following the crash which happened near South Mimms.

Several emergency crews remain at the scene while an air ambulance also attended shortly after the collision happened.

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue freed one trapped person and said they were called to reports of a car that had struck a stationary lorry.

Initial calls were made to the police at 10.12am.

There are no further details on casualties at this stage.

The road policing unit are appealing for anyone who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Samuel Cordingley from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: “We are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this collision and I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police.

“If you have a dash cam fitted in your vehicle and believe you may have footage that could assist our investigation please also contact me as soon as possible.”

The southbound carriageway is open.

Drivers are advised to use the M1 and A405 to reach the M25.

Expect delays in and around Borehamwood especially at Stirling Corner and routes out of Mill Hill towards Borehamwood and Elstree.
