A £16,000 gate will be installed to deter trespassing children.
Earlier this year planning permission was refused for the extension of the North Weald 240 Building to accommodate a vehicle compound.
With the capital funds earmarked for the project going spare, the district council has decided to install an automatic gate at the Airfield.
This installation will cost around £16,000.
It is hoped that the gate will provide "a more effective deterrent to trespassing" after staff discovered children had been breaking in.
The gate will be in place by the end of the financial year.
