A mobile polling station will return next year after it was backed by voters and more importantly, councillors.

Following the local elections earlier this year, a voter was “staggered” by a decision to move a polling station in Oxhey from The Pavilion car park to a scout hut. She said the new site was not disabled-friendly.

Three Rivers Labour leader, Cllr Stephen Cox, has since made it his mission to reinstate the mobile polling station and following a regulatory services committee meeting on December 5 at Three Rivers District Council, it was unanimously agreed by all members to bring back the original station.

Poll results in September showed the majority of those eligible to vote in the Oxhey Hall & Hayling ward preferred the mobile polling station – 233 people.

Cllr Cox said: “I’m glad the residents have been listened to and the mobile polling station which should never have been removed will return for this May’s local elections."
