Is our council really encouraging us to recycle?

I have received a fine of £150 from Redbridge Council after purposefully visiting the recycling bank to responsibly dispose of a number of cardboard boxes.

They can see from their camera footage that I have deliberately visited the site to deposit my cardboard as opposed to dumping it somewhere but because I was unable to tear up one of the large boxes to post into the bank I am being prosecuted for littering.

My appeal was rejected immediately and my only recourse is to risk court action, which may result in a criminal conviction and paying costs for both parties.

As a passionate recycler and upstanding and active member of the community I am astonished our council have adopted this ‘highway robbery’ style treatment of decent residents when there are patently criminal elements who evade any kind of punishment.

I would cease all my recycling and litter picking in protest but realise this would only undermine my own beliefs.

What is going on at Redbridge?
