Bargain hunters should get ready to rummage at an event offering free household items.

North London Waste Authority is hosting a Give and Take day where Waltham Forest residents can donate and keep second-hand furniture and household items for free.

The event takes place at Vestry Hall at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Chingford Green on January 12 between 12pm and 2.30pm.

It is the sixth year that the event has taken place as part of the association’s Wise Up to Waste programme, in which seven London boroughs committed to halve their waste by 2020.

Anyone with good quality usable household items is invited to donate for the first hour of the day, whereas the last hour is for those looking for a bargain.

Items that have been up for grabs in previous years include sofas, teapots, pianos, sewing machines, cabinets and chairs – and even a bath!

There is no need to bring items to take something away.

North London Waste Authority chairman Cllr Clyde Loakes said: “These events give north London residents an opportunity to have a clear-out or pick up something useful – at absolutely no cost.

“They’re also great because they extend the life of perfectly good furniture and household items which might otherwise have gone to disposal.”

North London Waste Authority is the waste disposal authority for Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.
