A cricket club has announced their second overseas tour to a Spanish island later this year.

Buckhurst Hill Cricket Club, in Roding Lane, will be heading to Menorca from September 26 to September 30 to play two games against Menorca Cricket Club.

Following the popularity and success of their Malta tour last year, the club hope to uphold what was a previously long-held tradition.

Chairman John Chipperfield said he chose to head to the Mediterranean isle after getting know the rivalling team during holiday visits.

He said: “It’s a beautiful ground. We’ll play from mid-April so we are getting ready for the new season so we will be playing up until we go, we have got high hopes for this season.”

Set within the South West region of the island, Menorca Cricket is regularly visited by sports commentator and journalist, Henry Blofeld.

Mr Chipperfield, who has been captain of every team for the cricket club since 1987, said trials are still being held for anyone wanting to join.

“We are always looking for new players, anyone who wants to join is welcome.” he added.

Buckhurst Hill Cricket Club will kick off their 2019 season playing against Oakfield Park Onions from Fairlop Waters.
