Several schools held non-uniform days and bake sales across the district to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday.

More than £63 million was raised during the 34th annual appeal.

Over at King Harold Academy in Broomstick Hall Road, Waltham Abbey staff and students contributed to the fundraising gala by holding a cupcake sale and sweepstake.

A statement released by the school said: “At King Harold Academy, our three core principles of ‘Challenge, Support, Inspire’ are at the centre of everything we do and supporting Comic Relief is something we are very passionate about.

“This year, for Comic Relief 2019, we wanted to focus on the reasons for the event, the purpose and the stories. We spent all week using the incredible resources from Comic Relief to educate our students and share stories of the amazing work that their charitable contributions support.”

Pupils also took part in a quiz across during the morning registration and PSHE time and donated £1 each dressing for non-uniform day.

Over at Thomas Willingdale School and Nursey, in The Broadway, Loughton, students wore red and their colourful noses for the charity, raising £651.59.

Class teacher Lauren Titchmarsh said: "The School Council wanted to raise money. They sold Red Noses two weeks leading up to the day and the School Council did a fantastic job selling all of the noses.”

And it was a Disney-themed event at Hillhouse CofE Primary School, in Ninefields, with children donating £1 for dressing as their favourite characters.

Children and staff were treated to bake sale at break with craft and sporting activities arranged for the afternoon.
