A drama agency is set to perform in a festival to showcase their talents in a bid to be accepted into The National Theatre.
Act2 Academy in Wingrove Hall, Highams Park, will perform at the artsdepot theatre, in North Finchley, on Friday, May 3 as part of National Theatre Connections.
The cast will perform Chaos by Laura Lomas, one of ten new plays written especially for the festival by the best playwriting talent in the UK.
Director Amanda Goodwin said securing a place at the prestigious event was almost impossible without a budget.
“We face tough competition from theatre schools that rehearse four times a week in high end theatre spaces.
“The students have worked really hard on this show which falls right in the middle of GCSE’s.”
“This play has been an emotional challenge for my young cast and I am immensely proud of their hard work and dedication to this play.”
The National Theatre Connections is one of the world’s largest celebrations of youth theatre working with up to 260 youth theatres and schools to stage this year.
The annual festival is supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and by a number of individuals, trusts and foundations.
Rufus Norris, director of the National Theatre, said:
“Connections is at the heart of the National Theatre's work for young people and one of the most exciting and important projects we do.
“We think it's vital that young people, wherever they are in the country and whatever their future path, have a chance to get involved in theatre.”
