Changes to when waste and recycling bins will be collected within the district have been announced today.

Epping Forest District Council confirmed the changes will commence from Monday, June 3 in an attempt to improve effiecency and provide an effective service.

Properties that will be affected by these modifications will receive a bin hanger in either week commencing Monday, May 6 or Monday, May 13.

Speaking about the upcoming changes, portfolio holder responsible for waste and recylcing at the disitrct council, Councillor Nigel Avey, said: “It’s done as an operational thing in conjunction with waste management company Biffa, they look at the operational effectiveness and fine tuning.

“I think everybody will agree Biffa’s service is good but we are always looking to improve our services.

“We are one of the top recycling areas in Essex a lot of the residents do really well and have embraced recycling we going to make sure to recycle as much as possible and stop them from putting everything in black bins.”

In under two months’ time, around 2,000 households will have a new collection day.

Recycling sacks, blue box bins for glass, black-lidded wheelie bins and non-recyclable waste will be collected fortnightly.

Green lidded wheelie bins for food and garden waste will continue to be collected weekly.

The district council outlined that the changes will greatly benefit the environment by reducing lower vehicle emissions.

Alterations to the current pick-up dates will also include the new properties and roads built within the area, making collection routes more time sufficient.

When asked how the changes will impact residents, Cllr Avey said: “The ward councils should have been advised any impacts on the residents and should be taken care of. I have no doubt this will be a good idea and should work well.”

“I am keen we keep that service going, I am pleased with the way the waste contract is with Biffa and continue to get positive feedback from residents.”

Households that will be affected by the changes will receive another bin hanger, a letter and calendar stating more information between Monday, May 20 or Monday, May 27.
