The deputy chair of the district council officially declared the 2019 season of a lawn bowling group officially open at the weekend.

Cllr Rickie Gadsby was invited to conduct the ribbon cutting ceremony at Epping Bowls Club on Lower Bury Lane, Epping, on Saturday, April 13.

Cllr Gadsby fired bowls across the green to try her skills before members enjoyed their first roll up of the season.

Club captains Ron Perryman and Lorraine Mead welcomed guests and made a special presentation to member Peter Bates who is celebrating his 30th year at the club.

Cllr Gadsby said: “I am so happy to be invited to be the first to bowl of the season. I can see just how good this game can be and wish Epping Bowls Club good luck for the season.”

Men’s captain Ron Perryman said: “We are delighted to welcome Cllr Gadsby as we are off the beaten track so it’s good to be able to celebrate in style and promote the joy of playing bowls to a wider audience. Come and give it a try.”

Epping Bowls Club was established in 1911 and are welcoming new members for the upcoming season.

Free ‘Come & Try’ days will take place on Sunday, April 28 and Sunday, May 12 from 10.30-3.30pm.
