A World War Two grenade was discovered at an industrial estate site close to several homes.

The device was found around 9.45am on the Hallsford Bridge Industrial Estate, High Ongar, on Tuesday, April 16.

Essex Police and a military Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were called to the site shortly afterwards to remove the grenade.

A statement released by Essex Police said: “It was identified that the item was a grenade but was safe as it had been decommissioned.”

PC Paul Harrison Constable for the Epping Forest Community Policing Team, also tweeted about the discovery, saying: “A WW2 hand grenade located on an industrial estate far away from residential homes. Appropriate units arrived promptly and made safe, Ongar survives for another day.”
