A town festival is set to take place next weekend following a successful debut last year.

The Ongar Town Festival will take place along the High Street, focusing on the theme “a celebration of sport”.

A tennis and rounders competition will take place including a treasure hunt to find hidden sports balls across within the area.

Over 30 market traders, donkey rides, a classic car exhibition and a meet and greet with Ongar Fire crew are just some of the many activities lined up.

Carolyn Innocent co-ordinator of Ongar Town Festival, explained why she decided to organise another event.

“It was so successful we have continued it again this year and hope it will turn into an annual event, it’s a family fun day overall really, she said. “We have been very, very busy its going to be full on we hoping for the weather of the marvellous sunshine we had over the Easter weekend.

“If anybody who wants to help just turn up on the day and I am sure we will find you something to do.”

Over 3,000 people attended the town’s day-long event in 2018, the first festival held in Ongar since 1895.

Programmes are on sale now where the tickets for an exclusive raffle draw with over 50 prizes donated by Ongar businesses will be included.

Ms Innocent added: “I’m looking forward to seeing the atmosphere we had last and bringing everyone together, all the proceeds raised will go towards the community this year it will back towards deserving community groups and local projects.”

Ongar Town Festival will be hosted by Ongar & District Twinning Association and the opening ceremony will take place in Ongar library car park 9.45am on Sunday, May 5.
