The first results for Epping Forest District Council elections are coming in - with a seat going to the Greens amid low turnout.

Dave Plummer took the Waltham Abbey South West seat for the Greens from Conservative and council vice-chairman Ricki Gadsby with 493 votes to 302, with 24 per cent of voters taking part.

There was jubilation on Twitter.




In Lambourne, Conservative Brian Rolfe held his seat, with 316 votes to Liberal Democrat Richard Griffiths' 107. Turnout was 27 per cent.

Jaymey McIvor became the youngest ever candidate to represent North Weald Bassett, holding the seat for the Tories with 470 votes.

Independent Andy Tyler polled 225 with Lib Dem Georgia Simmons third on 183. Turnout was 24 per cent.

The Conservatives also held Broadley Common, Epping Upland and Nazeing.

Turnout was 25 per cent, and Nigel Avey won with 313 votes to Lib Dem Edward Barnard's 37 and the Green Party's Anna Widdup with 87.

Syd Stavrou held Waltham Abbey High Beach for the Conservatives with 295 votes in a turnout of 25 per cent.

Lib Dem Naomi Davies had 101 votes and Paul Morris (no party) 96.

The Conservative-held wards of Hastingwood, Matching & Sheering Village and Shelley were unopposed.
