On March 14, Loughton, Buckhurst Hill & Chigwell Rotary Club presented Judy Rush from Loughton First Responders with a cheque of just over £1,300.

This was from some of the money raised at last year’s Chigwell Fete. This year’s free Chigwell Fete is on May 12 from 12pm to 5pm on The Green, Chigwell.

It will raise money for local charities, with lots of stalls, a dog show, bouncy castle, water zorbing, face painting, music, dance acts and much mor

We had a fascinating talk by our member, Kay Morrison, about her life in Fife as a councillor and Deputy Provost of Fife.

Her career before politics was in teaching and education and she is passionate about improving attainment and life chances for all.

The club's past president Pesh Kapasiawala ran his 10th London Marathon raising £1,900 for Charity LOOK UK.

He said "I finished my 10th London Marathon. Really enjoyed it, the atmosphere and public support is amazing.

"This was the first time without any time pressure, I got to talk to other runners and members of the public who were so encouraging. It is still the best Marathon in the world. The icing on the cake was meeting Jeremy Bowen, Middle East BBC correspondent at the end.”

The club's next free monthly Memory Cafe in Loughton is on May 10, for people with memory issues and their cares.

It is an activity session with singing, a quiz, bingo and games with free refreshments. We hold it on the second Friday of every month, from 10am to 12pm at The Loughton Club 8 Station Road, Loughton.

Please contact us if you would like to get involved with Rotary in any capacity.
