In preparation for their FA Trophy final later this month, Leyton Orient hosted an Aston Villa under-23s side at the Breyer Group Stadium and came out 3-1 winners.

Jordan Maguire-Drew, Dan Happe and Matt Harrold were on target for the O’s, with Jaden Philogene-Bidace providing the solitary goal for Villa.

Jobi McAnuff and Joe Widdowson were the only members of the squad to miss out completely, while a number of academy products such as Jayden Sweeney, Shadrach Ogie and Ruel Sotiriou were handed minutes.

A fast-paced start from the O’s saw them create two good opportunities in the opening minutes. Jordan Maguire-Drew nodded wide from Jamie Turley’s cross and Josh Coulson headed just over from a corner.

After 10 minutes though, Orient took the lead when Maguire-Drew curled a free-kick excellently into the bottom corner after Josh Koroma was brought down on the edge of the area.

All of the chances were going Orient’s way, and Bonne came close to doubling the advantage on 19 minutes when he had time to strike a volley which went just wide of the post.

The lead was doubled shortly after though when Dan Happe climbed the highest at a corner and powered a header high into the net.

Villa’s only real chance of the first half came when Cameron Archer’s effort deflected out harmlessly for a corner.

Bonne thought he’d added a third for the O’s at the start of the second half when he raced through and provided a tidy finish from Maguire-Drew’s pass, but he was flagged offside.

And, after making a host of substitutions, Orient were pegged back a notch when, out of nowhere, Jaden Philogene-Bidace struck a wonderful curling effort into the bottom corner beyond Sam Sargeant.

However, Villa weren’t able to force their way back into the game and the two-goal lead was restored for Justin Edinburgh’s side when Matt Harrold headed in from Dale Gorman’s free-kick, and that was the final big action of the game.
