Elderly drivers across the county are being offered bespoke one to one coaching sessions, designed to increase confidence behind the wheel.
The new ‘Driving with Confidence’ sessions was officially launched yesterday, Tuesday, June 11, by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP).
The Safer Essex Roads Partnership has a vision to reduce the number of casualties who are killed or seriously injured on Essex roads to zero.
Whilst older drivers have more experience, they also have a higher collision rate than drivers under the age of 70.
A statement released by Essex Police, said: “This practical course, taken in the drivers own vehicle, will equip older drivers with the knowledge and skills to reduce their likelihood of being involved in a collision as they continue driving.”
Driver improvement manager, Sally Plail, said: ‘Personal circumstances within your family may have changed and you may find yourself having to drive more frequently.
“Let us help you regain your confidence in these situations as you may just want the reassurance that your driving is as good as it was a few years ago.
“The course is an opportunity for you to update your knowledge, improve your awareness of hazards and driving skills.
“This could be all it takes to give reassurance, increase confidence and ultimately help you to keep driving for longer.”
For a limited time, SERP is providing this course free of charge.
