People across Enfield and Haringey will be able to have their say on draft proposals for new council ward boundaries.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has proposed new boundaries for all wards in Enfield and 19 wards in Haringey.

Professor Colin Mellors, chair of the commission, said the review “aims to deliver electoral equality for local voters”.

He continued: “This means that each councillor represents a similar number of people, so that everyone’s vote in council elections is worth roughly the same, regardless of where you live.”

Draft recommendations for Enfield (shown below) are for 11 three-councillor wards and 15 two-councillor wards across the council - with the borough continuing with 63 councillors.

Enfield Independent:

In Haringey, the proposals (again shown below) recommend 57 councillors should be retained for the future and there should be 19 three-councillor wards across the borough.

Enfield Independent:

Public consultations are underway for those who want to comment on the plans, and will remain open until August 5.

Mr Mellors added: “We also want to ensure that our proposals reflect the interests and identities of local communities (across Enfield and Haringey) and that the pattern of wards can help the council deliver effective local government for local people.

“We will consider all the submissions we receive, whoever they are from and whether your evidence applies to the whole council or just a part of it.”

The recommendations are available on the commission’s website at consultation.lgbce.org.uk and www.lgbce.org.uk.

Hard copies will be available to view at council offices.
