Over 100 boaters and campers alike are expected to trek on down to The Inland Waterways Association (IWA) Festival of Water this Bank Holiday weekend.

The family-friendly three-day event will hold an array of activities and entertainment at Lea Valley Park Waltham Abbey, including an illuminated boat procession on the Sunday evening.

Visitors are encouraged to deck out their riverboats and tents in bunting to creating a vibrant spectacle along the banks of the Lee Navigation.

Attractions on the water will include boat rides, boat-handling competitions and on land children’s fairground rides, craft stalls, food stands and live music.

IWA Events team chairman, Jane Elwell said: "Over the years, IWA has held some fantastic events in Waltham Abbey and we are confident that this year’s Festival of Water is going to be one of our best.

“We hope visitors from the local area come along, have some fun and find out a bit more about the canals and rivers in the region.

“These waterways are a wonderful place to relax, unwind and get back to nature. They deserve support and protection.”

A photography exhibition looking at the River Lea: Then and Now is also planned, looking at snapshots along the river from 1965 to the present day.

The IWA Festival of Water runs from Saturday, August 24 to Monday, August 26.
