A retail bank is closing one of its branches based in the district this winter.

Lloyds Bank will officially shut their Epping High Street service on Tuesday, November 5, just five months after the town's Santander branch ceased trading.

The British bank says the final decision was made following a fall in customer visits over the past year.

In a review published by Lloyds bank only 344 customers visiting on a regular monthly basis, 70 per cent less visitors than in 2018.

A statement from the bank said: “We’ll still be here to support you, and there are other ways you can continue to do your banking – take a look at this document to find out about these in more detail, as well as a summary of our review.”

Another contributing factor in the closure is that many customers now use alternative ways to bank, by using apps and online accounts.

Around 76 per cent of Lylods bank customers who use the Epping branch are now to using other nearby branches, internet banking or PhoneBank when dealing with their finances.

A further 25 per cent of personal customers using the Epping branch have also used the Post Office.

The number of cash machine transactions have also fallen, by 14 per cent for personal account customers and nine per cent for business account users.

Llyods Bank nearest branches to Epping are Loughton and Harlow, can be reached bus eith journey times 30 and 40 minutes respectively.
