Nearly £5,000 has been donated to the police officer who was injured in a machete attack.

PC Stuart Outten, 28, has been released from hospital since being attacked by a machete on August 8 at the junction between Coopers Lane and Leyton High Road, Leyton.

Alongside the good news of his release, PC Outten has had nearly £5,000 raised from a JustGiving page launched by another Metropolitan Police officer, PC Nikki Yianni.

The page’s initial £500 target has been massively exceeded, with nearly £5,000 worth of donations being sent in by 291 different supporters. All money raised from the crowdfunding page will go directly to PC Outten to spend in his own accord.

After being slashed in the head and hand by a machete, PC Outten managed to taser his attacker despite the injuries.

He was treated by his colleagues and paramedics in Leyton High Road before he was taken into hospital.

The family have previously released a statement, saying: "We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received from the public, Stuart’s colleagues and the wider policing family.”
